I host a story circle in the Bridport Community Orchard during the summer months. This is a fortnightly event and free to join for anyone to come and listen to or tell stories around the fire, and enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of the orchard, as the fruit gently ripens on the trees. We celebrate the summer solstice in June and the golden harvest of Lammas in August.
Fortnightly on Mondays, 7.00 – 8.30pm
May: 25th
June: 8th and 22nd
July: 6th and 20th
August: 3rd , 17th and 31st
September: 7th
Outside of the summer months, I curate storytelling evenings, with regular tellers from the orchard circle – Jules Proctor, Michele Read, Raja Jarrah and Helen Stephenson – to celebrate the turning of the year. We often gather around the time of the vernal and autumnal equinox, the winter solstice, or the Celtic festivals of Samhain/ Hallowe’en, Yuletide/Winter Solstice, Imbolc/ Candlemas, and Beltane/Mayday: the journey into the dreaming darkness of winter, and the welcoming back of the light as we approach spring.
The Season of the Yule, dreaming into the darkness, with stories drawing of from Yuletide traditions, the Winter Solstice, and the turning of the year.
Welcoming back the Light, celebrating Imbolc/Candlemas and the emergence of snowdrops
Mad March Hare: celebrating the vernal equinox and the coming of spring
Mayfest: we have a regular storytelling space at the Bridport Community Orchard’s annual Beltane/Mayday celebration – a family event comprising traditional Mayday activities including Morris dancing, singing, storytelling, a maypole demonstration, and garland making, and storytelling. There will be live sheep, a magic show, seed-bomb making and a treasure hunt through the blossoming trees. The crowning of the May Queen and Jack-in-the-Green, and blessing of the trees. All welcome, entry free. Early May Bank Holiday Monday, 1.00 – 4.00pm.
Starting 7th June 2026, I'm starting a monthly storytelling gathering at B-Side, 77 Fortuneswell on Portland; 1st Sunday of the Month, 4.30 - 6.00pm
This is a cosy space where all are welcome to come and tell or listen to stories with tea and cake and conviviality. Free | donations for tea & cake (suggested donation: £2.50)
