Vygotsky’s brief life was devoted to the examination and investigation of culture. As a young man his environment was plagued by the political tumult of the early-twentieth century Soviet Union. With diverse interests, Vygotsky wrote extensively on psychology and learning. Though his seminal books and articles on sociocultural theory were written in the 1920s, they did not become widely known until the second half of the twentieth century.
