Ariane Macalinga Borlongan is a public intellectual, language scholar, and migrant advocate whose global experiences have shaped his work with multilingual migrants and English speakers in non-Anglo-American contexts. He earned his doctorate in linguistics at age 23 from De La Salle University, becoming the youngest to do so. He authored Migration Linguistics: Principles, Processes, Practices and is editing The Handbook of Migration Linguistics. He is the Founding President of the International Association for Migration Linguistics and Convener of the Migration Linguistics Research Network under AILA. 

Borlongan serves as Associate Professor of Sociolinguistics and Founder and Head of the Migration Linguistics Unit at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. He is also a consultant for the Oxford English Dictionary, a contributor to major linguistic references, a columnist for The Manila Times, and a collaborator with international organizations on migrant language issues.
