PreK-4 and PreK-12 Special Education Dual Certification Program
The student teaching experience for the PreK-4/PreK-8 Special Education Dual Certification Program consists of one eight-week placement in a PreK-4 setting and one eight-week placement in a PreK-12 Special Education setting, for a total of 16 weeks of student teaching. Both of these placements must be successfully completed, with a grade of at least a C -, in order to complete the teacher preparation program at La Roche University.
PreK-4 Certification Program
The student teaching experience for the PreK-4 Certification Program consists of two separate eight-week placements in a PreK-4 setting for a total of 16 weeks of student teaching. PreK-12 Special Education Certification Program
The student teaching experience for the PreK-8 Special Education Dual Certification Program consists of two separate eight-week placements in a PreK-12 setting for a total of 16 weeks of student teaching. Both of these placements must be successfully completed, with a grade of at least a C -, in order to complete the teacher preparation program at La Roche University.
4-8 Middle Level Program
The student teaching experience for the Middle Level Certification Program consists of one eight-week placement is in the 4th-6th grade level, with a focus on any core subject area (mathematics, language arts, social studies, and science) and one eight-week placement is in the 7th-8th grade level, with a focus on your certification content area.
OUTLINE OF EXPECTATIONS

Week #1
Orientation to the classroom
Observations of students and classroom teaching
Complete initial conference with cooperating teacher and university supervisor.
Week #2 through Week #5
Cooperating teacher and student teacher will share the responsibility for planning lessons.
Student teacher will be responsible for transitions.
Student teacher may assume individual subject lesson planning with the cooperating teacher’s approval.
Student teacher may be assigned other teaching responsibilities by the cooperating teacher.
Complete mid-term TEM Assessment by end of Week #4 and Electronic Portfolio requirements.
Week #6 through Week #8
Student teacher is responsible for all lesson planning and preparation. The student teacher will also determine the cooperating teacher/student teacher responsibilities.
Complete and submit final TEM Assessment and Electronic Portfolio requirements.
