No fine print here.....
We enjoy hearing from you. No question or concern is too small, and there's no such thing as a "stupid question." Truly.
We will contact you weekly via Canvas either through Course Announcements (at the top of our class homepage) or via the Canvas Inbox.
You can set up your Canvas notifications so that you receive emails at your MySolano inbox or get notifications pushed to your phone.
We highly recommend getting notifications for Announcements and Due Dates pushed to your phone, as I post weekly announcements introducing the work for the week, extensions, and more.
Even though this is an online course, “showing up” in class on a consistent basis is one big key to your success. Online learning requires a little extra oomph than face-to-face, in my opinion, since there’s no set time/date for you to “attend” class. We suggest developing a routine or method of time management that works for you so that you frequently log in to class, participate in discussions and turn in work on time, etc.
Participation expectations for each assignment/discussion will be provided in that particular assignment and/or an attached rubric.
This is a 1 unit, 18 week course so plan on around 3 hours per week doing coursework.
Some weeks may take less time, some may take more time.
Time management and establishing a routine or schedule will really make all the difference, I promise.
We will discuss this in detail as part of Academic Honesty in one of our units/modules. In our experience, most students who plagiarize do so unknowingly. Or, if it is intentional, it was because they panicked due to (lack of) time management.
If a student engages in any form of plagiarism, I generally approach it as a learning opportunity and will discuss the situation with you so you can move forward successfully.
If plagiarism reappears, or the degree of plagiarism is severe, the college’s policies and sanctions may apply.
Please reference your Student Handbook for your Rights and Responsibilities and for information on the College’s policies and sanctions for plagiarism.
If you need assistance with citing your sources, please ask for help. We are here to help you learn the academic way to give credit to your sources.
We are sorry to see you go, but we understand that life happens and sometimes you have to take something off your plate. I hope you'll come back another semester, though! While LR10 is a co-requisite of ENG1, if you drop ENG1, you also need to drop LR10 (it will not happen automatically). Dropping is YOUR responsibility.
Once you have logged in to LR10 you might not be dropped, even if you only attend for one minute the entire semester. If you are getting emails from your instructor, you are still enrolled in LR10. If you do not drop, but do not attend, the grade you earn will appear on your transcript at the end of the semester. (And I don’t want that to happen! So please make sure you drop both ENG1 & LR10 if you need to drop.)
If you drop LR10, you will be dropped from English 001.
Visit: Admissions & Records to find out the deadlines for these drop dates:
Last day to drop a full-semester class and get a refund
Last day to drop a full-semester class with no course or grade recorded
Last day to drop a full-semester class with a 'W' grade
If you have already completed an information competency course, you may complete the challenge process/policy to opt out of LR10.
Often referred to as "netiquette," here is a gentle reminder of the interaction practices and rules we'll follow in all our interactions in this course.
If you ever feel that someone is not following these rules, please send an email to me using the Canvas Inbox and describe your concerns.
