History and Background

NOVA SPORTS & ACTIVIES, INC.  was established as a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation registered in the state of Virginia in 2020 during the COVID period for the purpose of creating opportunities for kids in grades 1-12 to engage in competitive activities related to sports and science while maintaining physical, mental, and social well-being.  The organization is designed to encourage parents and residents to volunteer time in their local communities as a coach, assistant coach, manager, or volunteer in some type of program. 

The founder made several principle observations that formed the basis of the need for such an organization.  The first observation was that kids needed activities to initiate, maintain, and improve physical, mental, and social health primarily accented by the COVID period which inhibited interactions.  The second observation was that there were fewer and fewer organizations upon which kids could easily access close by their homes without having to travel further and further distances.  The third observation was that most families preferred to use facilities close to their homes.  The fourth observation was that county governments had more bureaucratic process requirements levied on nonprofit organizations resulting in the decline in number of available activity groups for kids.  The overall observation was the need for a multipurpose organization upon which families and kids could participate for sports and activities.  

The corporation's primary purpose involves competitive youth sports activities.  The first set of activities were organized around wrestling.  Parents are invited to initiate and lead other sporting activities as well.  The corporation may also support competitive activities involving science, technology, engineering, and math, otherwise known as STEM, such as science fairs, robotics, and e-sports.
