Designer

To demonstrate the ISTE Designer Standard, I chose to create a lesson plan on the Citizen Scientist Backyard Birdcount.  This lesson plan demonstrates competency in the standard in the following ways:

2.5.a Accommodate Learner Differences - This activity uses technology to foster independent learning.  Students are given a variety of experiences to allow them to choose the environment that best suits their learning differences.  They can use Merlin or another bird identification app.  They can choose which area to conduct their bird watch.  They can utilize many online research tools to verify the birds they find.

2.5.b Design Authentic Learning Activities  -- This activity involves a real, worldwide Citizen Science project that allows students to learn about different bird species, identify birds by sight and call, collect data, and evaluate results.
