I couldn't have had a better experience in this course, and I am actually going to miss it. [...] I've never had a prof who cares like he does.

This semester has been an absolute pleasure, and even though my attendance was very spotty, I still found this class to be one of, if not the most enjoyable class that I have taken this semester. Being a STEM major [...] can take a little bit of a toll on my determination and leave me a little burnt out at the tail end of the semester. Luckily there are classes like yours, which carve a path through the year and help students like me to carry on and find the drive and motivation to succeed. I also want to emphasize your own personal contributions. Professors like you are not an everyday occurrence, and the blood, sweat, and tears you put into the course helped me to find a greater meaning to this class than simply just a GEP credit, and for that, I thank you.

Loren Cooper is the goat, one of the best teachers I ever had. Too many bad teachers at UCF HE CLUTCH. PICK HIM OR YOU LOOSE.

I just wanted to reach out after reading your announcement and say that I really appreciate how understanding you are towards your students, and really treat us like human beings. I have had so many bad experiences with teachers in the past (especially with English teachers for some reason), but the way you speak to us and teach us is really a breath of fresh air. All I wanted to say was thank you for that!
Also, I saw that you teach at UCF! I plan to attend there next year, and hopefully I will have the chance to have you as my teacher again!

I don’t quite remember the last time I wasn’t stressed about something, so it’s nothing new, but I am very grateful for your compassion for me as your student, it is that most heartwarming feeling.

Professor Awesome (A.K.A Michael Scott)
Although a severe pain in the butt, you are by far the best professor I have had at UCF. Maybe not the funniest, but then again...maybe. You care about your students, which is probably one of the best things about you and what sets you apart from other professors. I cheated the system and took your classes 3 times lol, but it was the best decision I have made. You truly are an awesome teacher (except for placing me with Carter) and I do hope to see you around campus sometime.

Hi Professor Cooper,
I have withdrawn from UCF, as I am going to a trade school. I wanted to let you know that I appreciate you for all that you taught me. I never felt like I could improve in my writing until I took your class. Honestly, I wish I could just go to one of your classes again, just to hear from you. Thank you for being such an attentive and encouraging instructor.

This class is awesome! I am thoroughly enjoying reading everyone's responses.

I have never felt so self-aware with my writing and so involved, as odd as that may sound. [...] I owe a great deal of personal growth to this course, and for that, I am immensely grateful.
Uma, ENC1101 Course Reflection, Spring, 2021
I'm 19 and really enjoyed this class, despite how much I personally abhor reading and writing. I have had this professor for two semesters in a row, and I am grateful for it. I wish there was a third class or that I could retake this one, but I am not sure I would want to have to pick more things to write about. I used to be an avid reader and writer of fan fiction before a learning disability made me unable to do it anymore. This class and my topic has inspired me to seek help for the things I did not know were keeping me from the things that I used to love, and I am currently in the process of writing vent-fiction for myself again. [...] Thank you for teaching me these last two semesters!

I went from a nobody to a complete chad in terms of my writing.
Robert, ENC1101 Portfolio Entry, Fall, 2021
He was the most understanding, caring, and helpful professor during this pandemic. He wanted everyone in his class to succeed and improve regardless of circumstances or writing ability. He is not a stickler with due dates, his method of assigning work is genius, and he's clearly passionate about his job, which is why he's the best prof for comp.

It was a semester of great risk, but also of great reward. The reward not only comes in the form of new academic and practical knowledge, but it comes in the form of a revelation [...] that I am a good writer. This belief led me to where I am now and a major decision.{...} The decision: I am changing my major.
Brett, ENC1101 Portfolio Entry, Fall, 2020
Thank you so much. It is very refreshing to be in your class where you are more concerned about me as an individual. I look forward to being in this class.
Karis, unsolicited email response, Spring, 2022
It's strange to conceive that my incredible adventure in ENC 1102 is coming to a close. The experience has been far more enjoyable than I had anticipated. [...] Professor Cooper's instructional methods and peer-review arrangements, however, made this encounter exceptional.
As a hesitant person unsure of their writing talents or ability to conduct serious research work, I embarked on a very confused and uncomfortable road. Nonetheless, in ENC 1102, I've learned that how the student-professor connection is structured is critical. Professor Cooper was very approachable and had an open-door policy. Thus, the atmosphere for "Shitty first drafts" allowed me to feel comfortable enough to begin writing even when I didn't want to.
Ayman, ENC1102 Course Reflection, Spring, 2020
It has been amazing being in your class, I really appreciate all of your help throughout the course and for the kindness, generosity, and lenience you've shown me and my classmates! I wish I could have you as a teacher in another class!
Connery, post-semester email, Spring, 2021
Of the lessons that we learned throughout this course, perhaps my favorite was that of learning that writing is a social activity. I would be lying if I said that I did not struggle throughout this course. There were many times where I did not know what I was doing or I was too anxious to keep writing. However, through the encouragement and assistance of my peer partner, I was able to complete the course with a newfound appreciation for revision and peer review. To my fellow classmates, Professor Cooper, and Mikaela, thank you for reigniting my love for research and writing.
Phil, ENC1102 Course Reflection, Spring, 2020
Great professor! So good I'm rating him now even though I took the class a semester ago just so everyone knows to take his class if they get the chance. Always gave great feedback. Scaffolding of the class builds up on one another, projects add to the previous. I absolutely HATE writing, but I'd take the class again just for Professor Cooper.

In middle school and high school, we are taught that English and writing have a set number of standards, and that you must obey them unless a failing grade is what you intend.[...] Because of this class, I am now able to view writing as a creative outlook for all, especially when it comes to expressing one’s feelings. The art of teaching others English can be quite tasking, however, when an individual knows how to direct their audience to the right path (such as Professor Cooper), then it creates a world of difference.
Ashley, ENC1101 Course Reflection, Fall, 2021
From English I to English II, I have flourished into the student you have guided me to become. English was not a class that was my strength. It was a class that I was afraid of because my writing was not where I wanted it to be. These classes with you have bloomed me into all those beautiful leaves.
Justin, ENC1102 Portfolio Entry, Fall, 2019
When starting this course, as an international student, I was very nervous because of my insecurity for my level of English and think that I might not meet the expectation of ENC 1102. The stress and struggles to find a potential topic that fixes with the theoretical frameworks were not easy for me. [...] I believe I could not find a clear sight without the help of Professor Cooper. Moreover, his method, which is dividing the research paper into small segments, was amazingly useful and is able to apply for my further academic writing.
Trang, ENC1102 Course Reflection, Spring, 2020
And a very big thank you to Professor Loren Cooper for being the most wonderful and absolutely delightful professor a student could ask for. You have no idea how many times I have bragged to my friends about having the most chill and genuine English professor in the world. You are the reason that I wanted to continue writing throughout the semester. I usually despise writing academically, but you made it fun, entertaining, and most of all, you took off all the pressure and stress involved with a college course. I can safely and genuinely say that I have become a better writer because of it. I can actually see evidence of that in my work. You made writing fun to me, and no one has been able to do that before.
Thank you once again, Professor Cooper
