Sequence Design: Revised Research Proposal
The Revised Research Proposal marks the point in the semester where most writers become more comfortable with their concepts of research and will prepare to get their hands dirty, metaphorically speaking. This assignment blends and develops many elements of the Proposal Draft with new writing tasks that will help to plan, organize, and actuate research protocols.
Group work takes place mostly in Canvas discussions at this point, and students still contribute to one another's learning through low-stakes and continuous peer-review.
For the Revised Research Proposal, writers develop their investigation of real-life literacy artifacts, real-world exigencies, real-life communities, and real Writing Studies research methods. This Proposal is less exploratory and more polished than its first draft, and it incorporates a final research question(s), a literature review developed from the Annotated Bibliography & Synthesis, a research design that will later inform the Methods section of the final project, a timeline for research, and a references page. As with previous assignments, students are also permitted to revise and resubmit this assignment as they hone their expertise.
The Revised Research Proposal is a higher-stakes venture with more stringent expectations, and it is also more heavily weighted. Earlier assignments began to develop writers' skill and knowledge. Due near the two-thirds mark of the semester, through this assignment, writers demonstrate that they understand ENC1102 course outcomes and can implement that understanding in a meaningful way.
