A Century of Ministry

In 2017, Lutheran Campus Ministry at the University of Michigan will celebrate its 100th anniversary, while Lord of Light Lutheran Church will celebrate its 45th anniversary. Located at the corner of the corner of Hill Street and South Forest Avenue, this dual-structured ministry continues to serve the University community primarily with outreach also to students at Eastern Michigan University and Washtenaw Community College. In celebrating a century of ministry, it is appropriate to briefly reflect on the roots and history of a ministry that from its inception played an influential role in the development of Lutheran campus ministry throughout the United States. It is hoped that such reflection brings not only an understanding and awareness of the historical foundations of this ministry, but a recommitment to meeting the ever-changing challenges of today and the future.
