Data-Backed Mental Health Research
The following will be what I consider to be key takeaways from mental health research and/or things that really helped me. The research itself and the source I am citing from will be in green while [my thoughts on it will be in blue with square brackets around them].
Text Referenced: The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins:
The part of the brain that determines fight or flight(amygdala), which also produces stress, is primarily made for very short term use with lots of reset time in between and it is unhealthy for it to be activated for long periods. It was actually developed purely for survival situations and hijacks the normal functioning of your brain which causes self doubt, trouble focusing, trouble taking care of yourself, constant fatigue, and many more symptoms. When the Amygdala is in control it essentially blocks out all the other parts of your brain(namely the prefrontal cortex, the rational, thoughtful part of your brain that is the real you), leading to brash decision making with non-logical thinking. However, studies have shown that 7 out of 10 people are currently living in a chronic state of stress meaning your body is constantly in survival mode.
While it is a very common mindset to always try to control everything around you to try to force the most optimal possible condition[and one that I have often fell subject to myself], you cannot control or change others or their perception of you or your actions no matter how much you may try[To add onto this I’d say the only way of the true intentions being known or things being perceived the way that the person setting events in motion can be known is if they are either clearly stated or with more questioning. Unfortunately we live in a time where in a large number of scenarios malice or neglect is assumed(and even more unfortunately, it is often correct) when sometimes there really are much more kind reasons for an action or forces beyond the person’s control]. Attempting to do so only leads to stress, so the much healthier option is to let go whatever you may be bothering you and focus on yourself.
