Are we listening to young Friends?
Yes, though we would like to increase our level of contact. The message we are getting so far is, essentially, 'please make London Quakerism simpler and more manageable while retaining our Quaker discipline, so that it survives and thrives for the next 40 or 50 years'. Young adult Quakers tend to operate at a London-wide level already.
Is contributing to the project in the job description of the Local Development Worker, Josh Selfe?
No. But he is expecting to 'support Quakers, as individuals and as communities, around the London area. This support can be around anything including spiritual, pastoral, outreach, practical and facilitative matters.' He is aware of the work underway and has attended relevant meetings.
Are we learning from Quakers elsewhere?
Yes. We are in touch with the change process in Wales and the Marches (recently completed) and the ones in Scotland and Yorkshire (at earlier stages). We are learning from the experience of Central England, currently the largest AM in Britain Yearly Meeting. And we hope to learn from other YMs as well. Suggestions for useful models and contacts are welcome.
