Phototherapy

WHAT IS PHOTOTHERAPY?

Phototherapy is a treatment used to treat a variety of skin conditions.

The light is ultraviolet-B of a specific wavelength. This is known as narrow-band UVB or NBUVB.

It is NOT the same as a tanning-booth light.

Phototherapy is safe in pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Treatment involves attending the practice 3/wk for a few minutes.

Patients disrobe, and stand in the booth for a short period (initially just 6 seconds). The UV light shines on to the skin and helps control many skin conditions including:

-psoriasis

-dermatitis

-eczema

-hives

-itch

WHAT IS THE COST OF HAVING PHOTOTHERAPY?

The treatment is bulk billed: so you will not be out of pocket for the actual treatment if you have an Australian Medicare Card.

Overseas patients may be able to claim on travel insurance.
