Task 1 Discussion - Creating a Website

I chose to create a Google site as my website because it is free and user-friendly.

1. Go to http://sites.google.com/new

2. At the top, under "Start a new site," you can choose a template or open a blank site.

3. At the top, you will find a header that says "Enter Site Name," where you can name your website. You can also add a title to your homepage.

4. The toolbar on the right side of your page will allow you to personalize and add content to your site.

   • • Insert tab: Insert text boxes, images or upload files from Google Drive.

       1. • Click on “textbox” under the “Insert” tab to insert a textbox. A textbox will appear on your page where you can add text to your website. A pop-up toolbar allows you to customize your textbox's font, sizing, and other features.

          • Click on “Images” under the “Insert” tab to add an image to your website. Click “Upload” to choose an image from your device. Click “Select” to select an image from your Google Drive, URL, or Google Image Search.

          • The “Content Boxes” are another great feature. They offer a stylized way to add images and text to your website. Choose the layout you want in the right-side toolbar, and the blocks will pop up on your site. Click on the plus sign to add an image. There are text boxes underneath each image box to add your text.

          • To add a hyperlink to your site, scroll down on the Insert tab and click on “Button.” A window will pop up, and you will type in a name and desired hyperlink. Click insert.

     • Pages tab: You can add pages to your website in the “Pages” tab in the right-side toolbar. Click the plus sign at the bottom of the “Pages” tab, and a new page will open up and prompt you to name your new page. The new page will appear as a new tab at the top of your website. You can customize this by adding content from the “Insert” tab.

     • Themes tab: Personalize your website's colors, themes, and fonts. Google has prepared several themes that you can adjust. For my website, I chose the Simple theme and changed the color by clicking my preferred color from colorful dots underneath the theme name. You can also adjust font styles by clicking the arrow drop-down next to “font style” and selecting a new font.

5. When you've personalized your site and added all your content, choose the "Publish" button at the top right of the screen. It will allow you to choose a custom web address and limit who can view your site.
