I created this HyperDoc mini-unit for 11th grade as a project for EDUC 332: Teaching with Technology. The first doc is a lesson plan for the unit following Keeler's framework to articulate teacher thinking and student action steps. The second is the students' set of Google slides which include video options, a padlet response, and a short reading assignment for flipped instruction; a digital field trip; a doc for discussion notes; a jigsawed analysis activity with supporting resources linked; and a summative art project which can be done online or using physical supplies.
I chose this HyperDoc mini-unit because it contains a wide variety of technology-based strategies to make learning personalized and accessible for students. I created a piece of new content in the green screen video, and I curate other digital resources throughout the unit so students can make new connections and create new products. They have multiple means to access the learning, including leveled video options, self-directed reading choices, and websites. They have multiple ways to show their learning, including writing, speaking, and art-making.
Putting together this unit taught me many new skills, including creating a green screen video, lesson planning using HyperDocs, using a digital field trip as an instructional tool, and writing a flipped learning assignment. I also learned about the versatility of lesson planning using technology vs. without. Without the use of technology, I could not have provided video choices which were level-appropriate to each student, allowed them to individually select and respond to reading in a collaborative space outside of class, or facilitate a digital field trip.
