In 2016, using their family’s funds to purchase the construction materials and providing the majority of the labor themselves, the LLCC began construction on two new buildings on the property. So far, they have invested USD $38,000 of their own money to the project.
The new school building is a two-story structure with four classrooms on each level. The second building is a one-story structure with three rooms, each with its own bathroom, which will be used as a dormitory for volunteers.
The school building is approximately 75% complete, lacking only the doors, windows, floor tiles, ceiling, and roof but we lack the financial resources to complete it, so we are seeking donations from outside sources.
Peter and his father have done the majority of the construction themselves, with occasional help from their students in carrying the construction materials to the building site, and from volunteers,
The dormitory building for the volunteers consists of three rooms, each with its own bathroom, which can house up to four volunteers in each room.
It is approximately 70% complete.
The foundation and walls are in place. What is lacking is the floor, floor tiles, doors, windows, ceiling, roof, electrical wiring and fixtures and plumbing.
Because of the high inflation rate, which according to the Bank of Lao PDR, has increased to as high as 40%, between 2021 and August, 2023, the depreciation of the Laotian Kip, and various financial constraints, the construction of the school, which is about 70% complete, has been delayed. Although the inflation rate has come down, the prices have remained high.
Sadly, it is beyond our current financial capacity to complete the two structures. The LLCC is now seeking outside financial support using crowdfunding and seeking grants from various international organizations to complete this very ambitious project for years but with everything happening around the geopolitics and economics world, we are suffering even more.
So far over USD $1500 has been raised via our first GoFundMe campaigns!
We decide then to create another one and to ask again for your help and dedication.
As you can see in this photo, the school has come a long way — and the work is still ongoing. But the events of recent years have changed a lot of things, making it increasingly difficult to stay afloat financially and to keep this dream alive for the children of Lak Sao.
That is why we are reaching out to you today and asking for your support and generosity.
