Phono Stages are Hard
After enduring the struggle, the stress, and the terror of amplifying miniscule 100 microVolt signals from low-output moving coil cartridges to 1 Volt; designing and refining control and power amplifiers seemed like a vacation.
LKV Research, unlike other amplifier manufacturers, paid its dues by first creating exceptional phono preamplifiers, the most difficult to design Class A audiophile component. LKV’s experience is unknown to those who think grounding is something simply within a power cord or that a $5,000 case delivers better sound. Very low noise and minimal distortion rests with exacting execution.
It’s not about the case, it’s not about the power cord, it’s about how circuits and their carefully chosen and matched components create an electronic instrument delivering music, but a nice case is good!
Welcome to the creations of Bill Hutchins. His insight, clarity, devotion and talent keeps the playback of recorded music as untainted and timely as possible.
Design Goals of LKV Research
Minimize All Sources of Distortion & Noise
AZF Circuitry
Tackle Distortion, not just IMD and THD
Class A Signal Amplification, Class D Speaker Output
Zero Feedback
Matched Key Discrete Components
No Opamps in Class A (Opamps require feedback)
No Electrolytics in Signal Paths
Attack Noise
Differential (aka Balanced) Circuitry Internally
Short-Lengths for Signal Paths
Dual-Mono for Minimal Crosstalk*
XLR (aka Balanced) with RCA Inputs & Outputs* for compatibility
Linear Power Supplies, external on pre-amplifiers.* (* excluding headphone amp in Verito-1)
