SMART stands for, Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. Breaking the goal into small components and defining each parameter helps to set out goals that are achievable withing a certain time. (Boogaard, 2020)
To gain experience working in different occupational therapy settings on placement throughout my three year degree course at Oxford Brookes.
How is this SMART?
Specific - Focuses on placement experiences
Measurable - I can reflect on each experience, record it, and receive peer feedback from placement supervisors and my university lecturers.
Achievable - I can acheive this goal by going to placements, working hard and being present. Making reflections and asking questions of those around me for advise.
Relevant - It is really important that I learn and experience real settings where an OT would work as I want to be an OT myself so it's very relevant.
Time-bound - By the time I graduate.
To achieve level 1 of the Leadership Pillar of practice.
How is this SMART?
Specific - Focusing on each point that is within level 1.
Measurable - I can work with peers to receive feedback on the points that make up level 1 to ensure that I have met them.
Achievable - This is achievable as I am always learning and working on these skills not only in my university life but also in my work life.
Relevant - These are skills that I need to be able to do as they are part of OT practice.
Time-bound - By end of placement practice March 2023.
