Over the years through study and work, I have completed various external courses or certificates to add to my knowledge. These vary a little bit, from mental health to gym instruction but they all provide me with experience, knowledge and skills in different areas that I can use when I practice as an OT in the future.
As the RCOT Professional standards for occupational therapy practice, conduct and ethics states in section 4.2.1 'Your actions are based on a set of logical professional reasons, which are themselves informed by professional knowledge, skills and experience, and published resources'. Therefore, as the years go on, I will continue to add my education and certification here to show my continued up to date knowledge.
I got my level 3 Mental Health Awareness course certificate in 2020 whilst studying online with Ruskin College, Oxford, during the COVID 19 pandemic.
To enable me to get into university I needed to complete an access course. I completed the Access to Allied Health Professions Diploma in July 2022.
To allow me to go on practice placement in March 2023 I needed to complete basic life skills. I attended a one day session at Brookes to learn these skills.
This was really important to complete in relation to my study at Brookes as the course relates to good academic practice in research, reading and writing along with how to problem solve and understand plagiarism.
In the summer of 2022 I was lucky enough to take part in a gym instruction course paid for by Brookes Sport. I hold a level 2 certificate.
