These images have been copied from web (from the public domain repositories). Many can be turned between centres. Remember, it's called a challenge so you can step up in skill development - turn something you wouldn't normally turn, use a tool you don't normally use, discover new ways to do things. The challenge is against yourself - not against those who come along.
The challenge for September is to turn a dried flower vase (bud vase/weed pot)
The September Meetup will be on the 25 September. 9:30 start. Can you please bring a camp chair, so we can have somewhere comfy to have a tea/coffee and a yarn. Please DM for address.
A great video focusing on a range of spindle techniques.
A intro to the ABCs of woodturning - but with a twist.
While Kent focuses on Bowl turning in this video, the principle applies equally to spindle turning. In fact, good spindle turning technique is the precursor to successful bowl turning.
I'd venture that once you nail this technique, after lots of practice on both skew chisel and spindle or bowl gouges, the risk of catches drops drastically.
