Abstract
My proposed approach to socio-environmentally just food transitions centres deep observation of existing care practices relating to civic food and how they interact. This is done through observing and tracking contextual ecologies of food rituals and relationships, which in turn build cultures and identities. Ultimately, the study suggests that youth-oriented civic fresh food initiatives play an essential role in creating pathways for restoring food’s role as a social, cultural, and environmental determinant of health, through forming contra-practices of care-centred food transitions.
