AbstractBuilding on two LIVIANA 2025 sessions on Inventorying Policies for Community Economies, this workshop continues our exploration of the policies and forms of governance that support economic diversity and help cultivate postcapitalist community economies.
We invite CERN members, particularly contributors to the Handbook of Diverse Economies, to share brief reflections (approximately five minutes each) before we move into small-group discussions for deeper conversation and exchange.
Possible contributions might focus on:
1. Policies that directly or indirectly support diverse economies, including: State policies and regulatory frameworks Informal community norms, practices, and institutions that operate independently of the state
2. Current policy debates to which community economies scholars can contribute distinctive perspectives, such as:
Universal Basic Income (UBI)
Conservation and protected areas
Employee-owned businesses and workplace democracy
Food security and food sovereignty
3. We also warmly encourage contributors to the Handbook of Diverse Economies (Edward Elgar, 2020) to revisit their chapters through a policy lens. What policies, if any, have enabled or constrained the interventions, initiatives, or practices discussed in your chapter? How has the policy landscape changed since you wrote it? What new opportunities, challenges, or debates have emerged that warrant attention today?
In this session, we hope to continue building a richer inventory of policies and governance practices that can strengthen diverse economies and expand possibilities for community-led economic transformation.
