AbstractSustainable Living Armidale (SLA) began life in 2007 inspired by the vision of becoming a Transition Town. In 2026 SLA is experiencing a period of new growth and transformation. Recently two academic researchers have been differently involved in the organisation’s story: Dr Sarah Houseman was employed by the NED Foundation in 2024 to examine the work of regional community based groups engaging with the energy transition and SLA became one of her case studies. Meanwhile Dr Jennifer Hamilton works at UNE and lives in Armidale and does applied community organising work informed by diverse economies theory and guided by the concept “weathering”. In 2026 Jen took over convenor of SLA after years of working on smaller projects within the organisation. When Sarah and Jen met up we discovered synergy in our interest to develop the our practice of ‘applied weathering’ within SLA. We want to use the opportunity of LIVIANA 26 to reflect on the data from Sarah’s organisational study and examine the possibilities for our research methods to continue to facilitate the next steps for the organisation. Together our approach acknowledges the importance of careful relational practice and listening to the affective life of the community. We use creative methodologies to do this work.Featuring: Dr Jennifer Mae Hamilton, Dr Sarah Houseman, and members of SLA.
