Standards & Guidelines

As captioning becomes more and more available, please ensure that you’re adhering to the best practices and guidelines that have been recommended by the Deaf & Hard of Hearing community. Those guidelines are as follows:

  • White font on a black box; SLIGHT opacity for the background is okay.
  • Horizontal or Full alignment has ben found to be the most effective and favored
  • Place your captions in the bottom right to allow for Deaf and Hard of Hearing viewers easy viewing of chat and stream content
  • Font size will vary based on the speaker. Please verify it is legible on a mobile device.

As a content creator, it is important to take into consideration that these best practices were developed in conjunction with the Deaf & Hard of Hearing community who want to be able to view content on live-streaming platforms. By following these best practices, you are ensuring that those viewers have the ability to enjoy content creation just like any other viewer. In addition, following these best practices will ensure that your stream can be listed as an accessible streamer for Twitch/Mixer.
