Before Litter Free Leonia began in May of 2026, it all started with an idea about making our town cleaner. That idea soon turned into a plan, and that plan eventually turned into a project. Every member chipped in with their own ideas or support, and soon, a group of dedicated students was created. The first event was held at the 2026 Leonia Day event, and since then, there have been more advances, more cleanups, and more help to our community. In the end, our beginning as a group did not simply begin with an event, but began the moment everybody came together for a shared purpose: making our town cleaner.
Our group wouldn't have committed to our project if not for the incentive of protecting our town. It goes without saying that litter is quite harmful to everyone in our town. Litter decreases causes health risks, decreases property values, and harms the environment. This is not just an issue in Leonia, this is an issue across our country. In the United States, over two million pieces of litter are dropped everyday, and in Leonia, an estimated 800,000+ pieces of litter are dropped annually in our community.
In the end, Litter Free Leonia is dedicated to one main goal: cleaning our town and spreading awareness. Leonia is a great town, and it would be even greater if it were to be cleaner. We believe that everyone, regardless of grades, status, or connections, can help our community. The best part? You can help. You can be more mindful about your garbage, educate others about the dangers of litter, or even join our volunteering group if you qualify for the requirements.
