- Pleasant Valley Junior High
- Here is the link to the Literally Makeing that I created for our 8th grade LA team. They are implementing a honor LA course next year at the junior high. I came up with the book set for social justice/civil rights and then at workshop came up with the idea to use the picture book Martin’s Big Words to have the students create a work of art to show their learning.
- Hoover Elementary
- I gave the Not a Box cardboard challenge to grades 2-5. Because of the difficulty 2nd had working with the duct tape, I chose not to have the younger classes participate. First I read the book Not a Box book to the class. We talked about the rabbit's imagination. I gave students cards A-6, which placed them at tables of four. There were two papers and two pencils at the table. The first two at each table got to draw their plan. The other two were able to give their input. The table, as a group, had to decide on one plan/drawing. After showing me their plan, they were able to go to the supply table to gather the supplies they needed for their project. (Supplies included cardboard, duct tape, scissors, markers, and crayons.)
- I set a timer for two minutes before the end of class. At that time, everyone could look at other projects while I took pictures of the completed project and their plan. Lastly they cleaned up, returning things to the supply table and making sure tables and floor were clean.
