"Learning the way it was meant to be — one-on-one instruction and individual learning, scaled to fit the changing needs of students and instructors for 21st-century learning."
Each unit in the course contains Preparation Exercises to be done individually, at least one Collaboration Session (small groups), and Exercises to be done individually after the CS. The Collaboration Sessions showcase student groups working through the collaboration material in Realizeit. These student group sessions take place online using Zoom integrated into Realizeit and are recorded. As your instructor, I will have access to my student group answers recorded in Realizeit, and also a video recording of the student group working through the material.
● After each of my student groups have completed a collaboration, I will review your work and create feedback that will be shared with the entire class and/or a specific group.
● Feedback may be created with a video/screen recording, as a PowerPoint/Word document, or as a discussion post.
● My feedback will contain references to specific difficulties and/or misconceptions that I may notice while reviewing student group collaboration submissions.
We will generally do two full units in a week, except when a test will occur.
Best practices for Collaboration Sessions
Take turns being the leader of sessions (one leader per session.) You will have a chance to select yourself as the leader, or I may select you as the leader. The responsibilities of the leader are to pull up the lesson, listen to all members, write/submit answers for the group, and work with your group to write up a summary at the end (you will have specific questions to answer.)
Note: Your collaboration session will be recorded. I will review your group summary and watch all or some of your recording.
Show up to your session on time with your camera and microphone on, if at all possible. This will help to contribute to a sense of community and belonging.
Allow time for all to individuals to read over the material/questions.
Give all group members a chance to speak, and do not discount a suggestion. Even an incorrect one can lead your group to the correct path.
Make sure you use Hints when available, or review Solutions after your group has submitted an answer. Take time to process the solution and discuss.
Don’t wait until the last minute to meet a deadline – it will be harder to catch up and you will end up having to do more work.
Do your best without the help of outside resources. Your work will help you reinforce and remember topics as you prepare for collaboration sessions, quizzes or tests.
Understanding how RealizeIt works is your biggest advantage. Using it the way it was intended will help you reach your goals faster.
