elaborate: modeling mentorship

The Innovation in the Heartland grant gave rise to the many iterations of the Design Through Inquiry framework that I had the privilege of working on with many minds including Michelle Kendrick.  I was already familiar with the BSCS model of 5E including engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate from my career of teaching high school science for 11 years. The addition of engineering provided the innovation to address place-based problems faced by these rural heartland towns. These student-led 5e+ projects took the curiosity of science to the next level of creativity to design through inquiry.
