About us
Lincoln Residents for Housing Alternatives
The Lincoln Residents for Housing Alternatives is a resource to the town, offering valuable ideas, educational tools, and an open dialogue about how Lincoln can achieve more diverse, welcoming, and affordable housing options.
We seek practical rezoning options that take real impacts on Lincoln residents, both now and in the future, into consideration.
We have developed—and shared with town leadership—multiple HCA compliant Options which fully meet the HCA guidelines, support development, encourage affordable housing, and support the revitalization of the Mall.
We are pragmatic citizen activists with a broad array of perspectives, skills, and experience and represent a diverse cross-section of Lincoln Residents. Like all residents, we care deeply about Lincoln and have invested a lot of thought, time and energy in considering the many complexities associated with responsible HCA compliance.
Our Mission
Our mission is to educate the Lincoln public on current proposed zoning changes. We stand for thoughtful planning following the principles of the Town's Comprehensive Long Term Plan of 2009:
A proposed zoning change will be considered based on the degree to which it:
1) Is consistent with--and preferably enhances--the rural character of Lincoln;
2) Enhances the social and economic diversity of the town:
3) Enhances the long-term financial stability of town government;
4) Promotes the equitable sharing of burdens and enrichment among residents;
5) Maintains Lincoln's strategic use of open space;
In addition to these five priorities, additional criteria will be considered given their special focus on emerging trends or relevance to specific land uses:
6) Enhances Lincoln as a "green" town
7) Creates amenities that enrich the experience of living in Lincoln;
8) Maintains Lincoln's long-standing special relationship with agriculture;
9) Encourages historic preservation;
10) Enhances the educational orientation and resources of the town;
11) Enhances social connection and civic engagement among residents and among neighborhoods;
12) Helps Lincoln contribute positively to the region.
