A Holistic, Ethical Approach to Raising Siberian Cats 💫

Hi, I’m Crystal, the heart behind Lil’ Star Siberians. I’m a 44-year-old wife, mama to four kids, chicken-keeper, and deeply in love with living a simple, intentional life. You’ll usually find me barefoot in the garden, sharing a quiet moment with my cats and coffee, or making sourdough in the kitchen.

I’ve explored many creative paths, from life coaching and writing to podcasting and YouTube. But nothing lights me up like raising Siberian cats with love and intention. This work connects me to the earth, to animals, and to a slower, more soulful way of living. Our cats are raised holistically: nourished with species-appropriate food, surrounded by love, and cared for like family.

My hope is that each kitten raised here carries a bit of that soulful magic into their forever home.

My Journey to Breeding Siberians

My love for cats runs deep. As a child, I would sneak kittens into my room, despite my mom’s allergies, just so I could have them close. That love only grew stronger, leading me to share my life with cats, dogs, chickens, and even a hamster, each one adding to the rich, vibrant energy of our home.

In 2021, I experienced a heartbreaking loss when my beloved Scottish Fold, Tinker Bell, passed away. In my search for another cat, I was introduced to the world of breeding and had my first two litters. However, I wasn’t fully committed to the path at the time and kept only three of the cats, Max, Leo, and Koba. They were my 3 amigos. 

Then, life took an unexpected turn. My two sons developed allergies to my cats, forcing me to make the painful decision to rehome them. It was devastating, they were my little companions, and I couldn’t imagine life without them. Seeing how heartbroken I was, my husband began researching hypoallergenic breeds, and that’s when we discovered Siberians, known for their naturally low levels of the Fel-d1 protein, the main allergen responsible for cat allergies.

We tested the theory with our boys, and it worked, no allergic reactions! That moment changed everything. I realized how many families struggle with cat allergies and how much of a lifeline Siberians could be for people who love cats but can’t normally have them. With that realization, Lil’ Star Siberians was born.

In August 2024, I welcomed my first breeding pair, Boots & Creamy, from NoCo Siberians. Creamy was already expecting kittens sired by Bear from Mile High Siberians, making their arrival even more special. Through this journey, I’ve built invaluable relationships with experienced breeders who mentor and guide me, ensuring that my breeding program maintains the highest standards of ethics, health, and care.

Our own cats and kittens are raised on a carefully balanced raw food diet, rich in moisture and biologically appropriate nutrients to support strong immunity, radiant coats, and overall vitality. Some of our amazing guardian homes also choose to feed raw, while others use carefully selected high-quality canned and kibble options. What they all share is a deep commitment to nourishing their kittens with the best nutrition possible. We also provide reverse osmosis filtered water to support long-term wellness.

Many people assume that breeders are simply “selling kittens for profit,” but ethical breeding couldn’t be further from that. At Lil’ Star Siberians, this is a heart-led calling, one that requires immense time, energy, emotional presence, and ongoing investment. From nutrition and holistic health support to enrichment, genetic testing, birth support, and postnatal care, every kitten’s journey is hands on and deeply personal.

While this work brings deep meaning and joy, it also requires countless hours and ongoing financial commitment, and the cost of adopting a kitten from us reflects the care, time, and resources that go into every aspect of our program. That support makes it possible for us to maintain high standards in nutrition, health testing, vet care, enrichment, clean and peaceful birthing environments, and individualized attention for every cat and kitten in our care.

We’re also passionate about how our stud cats are raised, a part of ethical breeding that’s often overlooked. Many catteries keep their males in cages or isolated spaces, but we’ve created something different. Our boys live free, spacious lives with people they love.

🐾 Teddy lives just up the street with our daughter and her dog Bea. He enjoys the comfort of indoor life, plus a large custom catio where he gets sunshine, fresh air, and stimulation, all through a dog-cat door that gives him full freedom to come and go.

🐾 Biggie lives here with us and is part of the daily rhythm of our home. We’re working with him intentionally to support a healthy temperament and positive habits as he matures.

Creating this kind of balanced, thoughtful breeding environment takes vision, time, and intentional planning. But to us, it’s the only way, because every cat deserves a life of dignity, comfort, and connection.
