This is a one-credit course that meets once a week for ten weeks.
Passing this class will not be difficult. All you need to do is read, be professional, participate, and complete the final assignment. However, I recommend that you do not set the bar so low for yourself. Yes, this class could just be another box that you check on your way to graduation. Or this class could be an amazing experience if you choose to get to know your classmates and grapple with the ideas presented.
You do not need to buy any books for the course. All of the readings and videos will be available on the Internet. However, each section will have a list of books that I believe would be useful for you to read at some point in your life.
Unfortunately, we only have ten short weeks to cover a variety of extremely complex topics. Some topics I felt like we had to cover and so I to compress them into one week. I would have loved to cover Gender Identity and Sexuality on separate weeks. Same with Love, Friendships, and Relationships. Each of these topics deserve their own time.
Like above, we just don't have enough time. I chose the topics that I thought would be most useful in the short time that we have. However, I would love to cover other BIG ideas like Citizenship, Art, Religion/Spirituality, Biology, Service, and Money/Wealth. My goal is for future iterations of this website to cover these topics.
Please bring me any questions, thoughts, or feelings that you might have. I am completely open to hearing what you think and how the class can be better. In some ways I am a student as well, so I am open to learning from you as well.
I am also here as a mentor and a resource. So if you have any questions or thoughts about anything outside of class -- if anything or anyone is bothering you, if you are super happy or sad about anything, if you are struggling with another course -- I am here to listen and offer my perspective if you wish to hear it.
