Dublin Airport – Bus connections
Dublin Airport is located north of the city and is connected to the centre via several bus routes. There is a mixture of public and privately operated services:
Dublin Bus
Standard one-way fare to city approx. €2 Note that these buses do not take card payment, and you must have the exact change or a bus card with available funds (Leap card). You can prepurchase tickets via Dublin Bus tickets or get a Leap card which is a travel card that can be used around Dublin and Ireland. Inside Dublin Airport, Leap cards can be purchased at Wright’s, WH Smith or Spar convenience stores.
Key Routes:
16 – Dublin Airport to Ballinteer.
41 – Swords Manor (via Dublin Aiport) to Lower Abbey Street.
Aircoach
Aircoach is a private company that operate routes from areas of Dublin and other cities in Ireland to Dublin Airport.
These tickets can be purchased on the bus using card payment, or in advance via their website or app. You can purchase a return ticket too which works out cheaper than a single each way.
The journey time is usually significantly faster than Dublin Bus but can vary a lot depending on the time of day (e.g. normally 30-40 mins to city centre, during rush hour traffic +1hr).
The 700 bus runs directly from the airport through the city centre to the UCD campus.

702 – Dublin Airport to Greystones.

Taxis to/from Dublin Airport
The fastest way to get from the airport to the city is via taxi which should cost between €25-€30. You can pay either in cash or via card.
There is a taxi rank at the airport outside the terminal where you should be able to order a taxi to your destination.
By Ferry
You can also travel to Ireland is by ferry. The journey times vary but the main operators are:
Irish Ferries: https://www.irishferries.com
Stena Line: https://www.stenaline.ie/
There are routes which connect:
· Dublin to Holyhead (North Wales)
· Rosslare to Fishguard (SW Wales)
· Belfast to Cairnryan (Scotland)
· Rosslare to Cherbourg (France)
With a Car
As well as being a more climate friendly mode of transport, for anyone wishing to have a longer stay in Ireland and see more of the country you, the ferry means you have the option to bring a vehicle. This can be of particular benefit if you intend to explore some of the Atlantic coastline during your visit.
On Foot
Particularly if you are travelling directly from Great Britain to Ireland there is also the option to travel on foot and purchase a “sail and rail” ticket which covers your train fare to your selected departure station in Britain and the cost of the ferry to Dublin.
· Irish Ferries: https://www.irishferries.com/uk-en/special-offer-pages/ferry-rail/
· Stena Line: https://www.stenaline.ie/rail-and-sail
Though longer than flying, this can work out much cheaper than booking these separately (approx. €55.00 up to €80 each way), particularly if you are relying on public transport in Britain.
There are trains that run from London and Manchester through to Holyhead and you can book the whole journey using the Trainline app (though you’ll usually need to print the tickets at a station and be given a physical ferry ticket at the terminal).

By Train
There are two main train stations in Dublin
Heuston Station: This station primarily serves intercity trains arriving from the west and south of Ireland (e.g. Cork, Limerick, Galway)
Connolly Station: This station handles intercity trains from the north and east of Ireland, including to and from Belfast, as well as DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) services.
Travelling to UCD by Public Transport
From Heuston Station:
Take Dublin Bus route 145 directly from Heuston Station to UCD.

When arriving to UCD, coming in the N11 Entrance, follow the road IMMEDIATELY LEFT and follow it past the cycle track, the bike shop (left hand side) and the new Confucius Building (right hand side) – the N5 Car Park will be on your left hand side. Participants and attendees to the conference will need to secure their own accommodation for the duration of their stay.
Ireland is experiencing a severe housing and accommodation crisis, and the effects of this are particularly acute in Dublin. Accommodation in Dublin can often be difficult to secure, due to issues with availability and affordability.
Particularly as this conference is due to take place during the summer and on the week of the UK Bank holiday (Monday 25), we anticipate that this could be a busy period for hotels and other accommodation providers around the city.
Therefore, we suggest early booking to avoid issues, and we also recommend using verified or official providers, as unfortunately online scammers can target students and others looking for accommodation around the start of term.
Some hotels or websites provide flexible booking (i.e. free cancellation), which may be worth investigating early if you are planning your visit to Dublin.
