Libera Research Group

Matthew Libera is a Professor of Material Science and Engineering within the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Stevens Institute of Technology.  He has been on the Stevens Faculty since late 1989 and has maintained an active externally funded research program throughout his career.

Research Focus

- soft matter, hydrogels & microgels

 - directed self-assembly

 - complexation phenomena

 - infection-resisting biomaterials

- electron-beam lithography

 - electron microscopy

In addition to his group's own research focus, Libera is the Founding Director of the Stevens Laboratory for MultiScale Imaging (LMSI).  This is a multi-user shared facility with advanced capabilities for electron, X-ray, and optical imaging and analysis.

Libera has also chaired the long-running Stevens Conference on Bacteria-Material Interactions.

A short video describing infection associated with tissue-contacting biomedical devices was produced In conjunction with the 2019 Stevens Conference (Implant Infection: A Complex Healthcare Problem).
