THE DESIGN: Syling Waves
1930's Wave Style
1930's Wave Style
GInger is a 19 year-old female recently cast in a Broadway show. The year is 1930. Ginger is a singer and dancer just starting off her career. She was born in Missouri to parents of Irish descent. She has a hard work ethic, and is well spoken. She likes to follow the latest fashions. She refrained from bobbing her hair in the 1920's in order to keep her hair able to be styled in different ways foro her career. RIght now she has her natural deep auburn color, but in the near future, she will move to Hollywood and go blonde.
To emulate the style of the early 1930's, I will set a prominent wave in the front of the hair, and gather the length of the hair into a chinon of curls at the base of the neck. I will use a hairnet to keep the curls contained into a faux bob look.
This is an image of 1920's waves with curls at the base of the neck. I like the liitle curl framing the face in front of the ear
This is an image of Ginger Rogers, who inspires this character, in 1930, before going blonde.
This is an image of a cinon of curls. I like the size and shape if these curls.
This is an image of actress BeBe Daniels. She has a similar round face shape to my model, and has waves and the little accent curls framing the face that I think would look good on my model.
This is an image of actress Faye Wray. SHe has a looser wave that also looks goos on her round face shape.

The styling process mostly went as planned. I needed to re-work waves and curls to battle a little frizz. I struggled with the waved not being as s-like as I would have liked. Overall I think it turned out much like the design, and I think it would read well for stage. The netted curls in the back were pulled up a little too tightly , and were kind of smashed. Keeping the net looser would have looked more like the drawing.
