"SUCCULENT DISH"
CHARACTER ANALYSIS:
This Character, Succulent Dish, is a Faux Queen . She is a 52 year old white female from the American Midwest in current day, 2023. She loves to be at home tending to her houseplants and her cats, but cant's resist taking a few plants with her when she gets all dolled up to hit the town. She loves nature and taking long walks noticing all of the amazing flora. She is full of life and creativity.
DESIGN STATEMENT:
I was inspired by the color palate of succulent plants in creating the character, Succulent Dish, I wanted the colors of her make-up to emulate the pinks purples and greens in the plants, as well as the gradients of one color to the next in each leaf or petal. I opted for matte finishes similar to the dry look of these plants. I chose a traditional drag look to emulate some of my favorite queens. I'm adding some artificial succulent plants to the hair to give her a quirky, creative touch, and to make the color palate make sense.

I thought the application went very well overall. I feel that I practiced at home enough to be able to finish it in just over an hour.
I struggled with getting smooth coverage with the concealer over baggy under-eyes, and getting a smooth blend of the eyeshadows with looser, older skin. I tried blur primer for the face, and Bye-Bye undereye for the undereye and forehead. I was still seeing undereye creases, after the foundation and using the baking powder for 5 minutes, so I tried adding more of the blur primer. It all clumped up, so I had to remove the under eye area and start again with just the Bye -Bye undereye. I think maybe a pigmented baking powder, and more time to bake with the powder over the concealer layer before foundation might have helped.
The contour on the cheek, jaw and hairline looked more apparent to me in the make-up mirror than in the final photo in the stage light, so this could have been more intense.
I had initially styled a lavender wig, but later decided that my own, darker, purple-tinted hair looked better with the palate of the succulents and the darker purple brow and lip.
I did find it hard to see with the colored contacts and long lashes on, so I feel for drag performers do full on stage performance,
I especially likes how the lip turned out. I thought it looked like the shading of real succulent leaves.
