The paiscús was a species of arctic vole that lived in Apex Fréas. They measured only 25 centimeters at their largest but lived in colonies of up to one hundred. Their fur was a white or light grey tone and had unusually bushy tails to improve their body temperature. Their forelimbs had thick and sharp claws at the ends of their fingers, used to dig through permafrost to find food and shelter.
Since the paiscús lived in a constantly cold environment, they did not hibernate. Instead, they built complex underground tunnels and divided labor unilaterally to maintain a consistent level of comfort. Further studies revealed that paiscús were capable of many intelligent feats, including giving medical care to wounded and rudimentary food preparation.
The Asymptite People lived in underground villages also called paiscús, named after the highly respected animal. Since Asymptites do not regularly consume meat, the paiscús were not widely hunted, but were sometimes kept as pets or butchered for dog food. Eavons meanwhile saw the paiscús as treasured pests, hunting them at every available opportunity to make their scent glands into perfume and their fur into fashionable hats.
