The purpose of this assignment was to select a political or ethical issue in the world and create a piece of art and an artist's statement to get our point across. I chose child labor which really became an issue I was interested in due to a documentary shown in another class.
The issue of child labor around the world is something that has disgusted me to my core ever since it was put on my radar. I always knew it was a good thing for a child to be independent to a certain degree and learn work ethic, but these children all over the world are simply being taken advantage of. The best years of their life are being reduced to a reoccurring hell that they know will likely never cease. There are many people that could do tremendous good in the fight against child labor, but many of them remain bystanders, due to the benefits that child labor brings them financially. Our world is being poisoned by the terrible treatment of future generations. I would like to see a world where only those who are being properly compensated and are of proper age should be doing such dangerous work. We have to stop sitting idly by children’s lives are being needlessly ruined.
