I chose to do my project on brain–computer interfaces because this technology shows how powerful the connection between the brain and technology really is.
One thing I learned was how serious the ethical and social concerns are in this type of development, especially when it comes to privacy and security.
The emerging technologies project is to help better understand how new technologies are shaping the world around us. It encourages us as students to look beyond everyday tech and explore innovations that are still developing that may become of regular everyday use.
Through researching brain computer interfaces, I learned how closely the human brain and technology can work together to create meaningful solutions for people with serious medical conditions. I gained a better understanding of how BCIs are already being used to help individuals communicate, regain movement, and improve their quality of life, rather than being just futuristic concepts. This topic also taught me that technological progress comes with important responsibilities, especially when it involves privacy, ethics, and human decision-making. The idea that a device could misinterpret someone’s thoughts or intentions made me realize how important accuracy, transparency, and human oversight are.
