Yes, CID (Criminal Investigation Department) officers can be involved in pursuits, but it's not their primary role. Detectives in the CID focus more on investigation and intelligence gathering rather than frontline policing. However, if a CID officer encounters a situation where a pursuit is necessary—for example, while conducting surveillance, during an arrest, or responding to a crime—they may initiate or assist in a pursuit.
That said, most pursuits are typically handled by uniformed officers or specialized units like the Roads Policing Unit or Armed Response Unit, who are specifically trained for high-speed pursuits and equipped with suitable vehicles and tactics for such situations.
CID officers would likely coordinate with these units if a pursuit were required and might provide intelligence or support rather than take direct control of the pursuit.
Now just because you can, we always recomend that we stick away from this unless as stated above, it's neccessary.
