A Bit About Competitive Diving; When we have diving competitions, there are various “requirements” that must be met in order to score and place in the event. Dives are split into 5 categories; Forwards (100’s), Backs (200’s), Reverses (300’s), Inwards (400’s) and Twisting Dives (5000’s). Each dive combines a number of ½ or full rotation as well as a body position; tuck (cannonball), pike (jack-knife), and straight (like a board). Our High School competitions are divided into 2 types. Dual meets are where our school dives versus another high school team. Each Dual meet will be assigned a “required” dive, to be performed first. This dive is then followed by 5 other dives (representing 4 of the 5 dive categories). No dive may be repeated, even if performed in a different body position (tuck vs pike). Invitationals/Finals/CCS meets are a bit different. For JV divers, 8 dives must be performed, one from each of the 5 categories plus 3 additional dives (representing at least 2 categories). Varsity divers are required to perform 11 dives, 2 from each category plus one additional dive, again, without repeating any dive.
One really great resource is from NFHS's website; many HS-standard and common dives, recorded in slow-mo, with range of scores received.
