Earth was created over around 4 billion years ago. The earth first started as a hot volcanic planet that did not have many continents. Over time the earth started to develop to what we see it as today such as having oceanic areas, different continents, and different environments. We can see not only how earth changed but also the environment and our organisms throughout the different time period which are separated as periods, eons, eras, and epochs. Each time period is separated in categories which describe how the environment was like, the type of living organisms present, and other things they could have discovered during this time. A time period I want to look closer at is the Mississippian and the Pennsylvanian epoch which is also known as the Carboniferous time period.
What was the environment like?
The environment or the climate was warm. It was mostly covered in plants and had a lot of swampy jungles. The planet consisted of swampy jungles, forests, and big oceans. Since the planet contained a lot of plants during this time period it was able to release large amounts of carbon into the air.
The organisms that lived during this time period ?
During this time period, there were many big insects, marine animals, and on land animals. Some marine animals include Psammodus, Uronemus, and Ctenodus. Some on land animals include big scorpions, spiders, and snakes that were so much bigger than the ones we have today. Some insects during this time period were like dragon flies and Arthropleura Armata.
The different elements that were in the environments?
There was a lot of plants, carbon, and water. These main elements allowed there to develop other things such as minerals like coal. There was also limestone.
What was found?
The most important thing that was found during this time period was coal which is made from dead plants getting buried under the soil and pressure getting added with high temperature which then starts to form into coal.
What was the material used for?
Coal is a form of fossil fuel which later on into the Industrial Revolution was used in industries. It is used to provide energy and heat as well.
Why is it important?
Coal was discovered during this time period and we still use it today. It is important because if we did not discover coal during this time period, we wouldn't be able to create energy, heat, or gas. Since it was discovered, it has been able to provide us with what we need and has made it easier to create energy and gas as well.
