Abstract:
Overall, I feel like I met some of my goals and got close to meeting my other goals. I feel like the class went well but, on my part, I did struggle to keep up with my work and put my best effort because of personal things that happened at home, and it took away my focus a little bit. I feel like I learned a lot in this class such as how the plate tectonics caused change during Pangea, how to identify rocks and minerals, and many other things such as the geological time scale.
Introduction:
Our planet is mostly made-up of soil, water, and minerals. These elements are around us all the time that have gone through different processes and continue to go through different processes to create other elements such as rocks, plate tectonics, and other natural events like volcanoes and their eruptions. All these elements around us affect our health and daily living because we have to adjust the way we live depending on the conditions of these elements. As students in this class, we will learn five different objectives in which I do not have very much knowledge about, but I am excited to learn these objectives and how they all affect one another. The objective I want to focus on more in this semester is analyzing geologic deep time and the geologic chart. I want to focus more on this during the semester because I find interesting that we can analyze how old something is by looking at it but also having an idea of what it has gone through over the years.
Goals & Objectives:
My goal for this class is to be more involved. I plan on being more involved by participating in class, group discussions, and asking questions. I feel like I meet some area of this goal such as participating in group discussions and asking questions during class.
Methods:
Some methods that I did during the semester to do well was by being active in discussions, ask questions if I am confused, and reviewing the previous material frequently. I also spread my work evenly throughout the week to give myself enough time to do everything but also enough time to go over the material to make sure I have a full understanding of it. These methods worked very well for me because I had enough time to do all of my assignments, had a full understanding of the material, and I also felt a part of the class because I was being an active listener. I typically spent around 10 hours a week on this class.
Conclusions/Discussion:
I feel like I was present in class. I was in class every day and on time, but I was also engaged in discussions, activities, but also assignments. I turned in all of my assignments on time. I think I have had the most practice with collaboration due to this class because not only did we have group discussions, but we also had class discussions and group assignments. I think it has impacted my life in a good way because not only did I learn skills that can be useful in the future such as public speaking, but I also learned how the different components of earth and how they became to be but also how those elements are in our everyday life and can cause environmental changes over time. I am most proud of accomplishing a more confident feeling when it comes to public speaking during my time in this course. I would give myself a letter grade of a B. I think it would match the grade you would give me because I have not only turned everything in, but I also did good on the labs. I do have a basic college level understanding of the material, but I did struggle to do the objectives because I didn't really know what to do or how to present my work but also because I don't do really well on assignment when directions aren't given out.
