La Loire à Vélo — the iconic route

A section of EuroVelo 6, this legendary cycle route runs approximately 900 km from Cuffy to Saint-Brevin-les-Pins, following the Loire River from its source to its estuary.

Around Saumur, 87 km of the route can be explored in several sections, through landscapes listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The route passes through Montsoreau, Saumur and Angers, offering a wonderful overview of Loire Valley heritage, including troglodyte dwellings, Loire islands and vineyard-covered hillsides. The route is generally easy, with the main challenge being the climb up to Saumur Castle.

La Vélo Francette

This cycle route connects Normandy to the Atlantic coast, from Ouistreham to La Rochelle (approximately 630 km), passing through Saumur and Montreuil-Bellay.

La Vélobuissonnière

A 250 km cycling route linking Alençon to Saumur via Le Mans and La Flèche, travelling between Normandy and the Loire Valley castles through the Sarthe and Loir valleys.

Beyond these major national routes, the Saumur area offers more than 300 km of signposted cycling trails to the north and south, including routes such as:

• "Variante des Pins"

• "Vignobles et vallée du Thouet"

• "Entre Loire et falun"

Among the most popular loops are:

• La Côte saumuroise (The Saumur Hillside Loop) — 30.5 km (approximately 3 hours)

• Entre Loire et forêt (Between the Loire and the Forest Loop) — 50 km (approximately 5 hours)
