scientist- a person who learns about the natural world
observe- use of our 5 senses to learn more (see, smell, taste, touch, and hear)
record- to write or draw information, also the use of photographs and video
compare- notice how two (2) or more objects are similar (the same) or different from each other
stem- part of a plant that moves water from the roots to the leaves and flower
seed- a young plant that has not yet grown, can be found in fruits
roots- part of a plant that goes in the dirt, absorbs water and holds the plant in place
leaves- part of a plant that gathers sunlight, needed for the plant to make its own food
grow- when something becomes larger, longer or gets new structures (parts)
investigate- using our 5 senses to learn more about a topic
habitat- a place where plants and animals all live ex. deserts, tundra, forest, city park or a classroom
1st Grade:
scientist- someone who learns about the natural world
survive- to stay alive, to NOT DIE
structure- a part of an object or thing that does a job for it
observe- use of our 5 senses to learn
prey- a living thing that GETS EATEN by another living thing ex. fish, zebras, rabbits

2nd Grade:
habitat- where an animal or plant lives and gets what it needs to survive
investigate- to learn more about something
seeds- a young plant that has not yet grown ex. black seeds inside an apple
roots- part of a plant that collects water, located UNDERGROUND
explanation- something that provides the reasons why or how something happens
data- information, pictures and more we collect by investigating, helps us to answer questions
leaves- part of the plant that collects sunlight
sprout- when a young plant breaks free of the seed
observe- using the 5 senses to learn
measure- using tools to find how long, heavy , hot or cold an object is
3rd Grade:

non-touching force- a force that makes something move WITHOUT TOUCHING it ex. magnets
diagram- a picture/drawing that shows how something works, or its parts
4th Grade:
engineer- someone who uses science knowledge to solve problems with a new design
function- a task an object is supposed to do ex. a refrigerator functions to keep food cool or cold
synthesize- to combine multiple pieces of information to understand something Ex. if I look outside, observe that a surface is wet and clouds are gray, I can synthesize that it may have just recently been raining outside

open circuit- where the flow of electricity is STOPPED, the power is OFF
insulator- a material that STOPS the flow of electricity ex. rubber around wires to stop people from getting electrocuted when they touch the wire
conductor- a material that CONTINUES the flow of electricity ex. water and metal are conductors that you should not touch if electricity is flowing through
convert- changing something from one form to another
converter- anything that changes one form of energy from one type to another
ex. a hair dryer converts electrical energy into heat energy (to help dry your hair)
evidence/proof- information needed to support a claim to be believed
claim- a statement about a topic with an answer
argument- a claim that is supported with evidence
energy- needed to make anything move or happen ex. electrical, heat, light, chemical, fuel, nuclear
electrical system- a system that requires electrical energy to function at all times
5th Grade:
astronomer- a scientist who studies stars, planets, and objects in the universe
star- a huge object in space that gives off light and heat energy
model- a picture or 3d object that scientists use to answer questions about the real world
pattern- when a sequence of events happens over and over, in the same order
