The LCA has received communication from the Aileen-Willowbrook Residents Association (AWRA) regarding a new visioning exercise for the Bayview Avenue and John Street area.
The Markham Council has directed Staff to identify potential new public roads, multi-use connections, assessment for the need for community services and commercial amenities surrounding the Thornhill Community Centre.
The City will facilitate topic-specific public meetings on various aspects of the plan to seek public input, and report the findings to Dvelopment Services Committee (DSC) by O3 2024.
Background Information:
In 2021, the City has investigated the opportunity of adding a GO station along the Richmond Hill Line in the Village of Green Lane. The founding has concluded that adding a GO station is not a viable option, due to public land availability and the proximity to the future Yonge North Subway Extension.
The Council has directed Staffs to perform a secondary plan study. The conclusion was present in the DSC Meeting on Janunary 23, 2024. The area does constitute a secondary plan, but "a specific precinct plan is necessary in order to provide vision and policy guidance that includes determination of land use permissions to better inform the public and the development community".
