Participants in this course will be able to articulate the difference between diversity and inclusion and how they work together as a complementary set of principles. Participants will be able to unpack the various components of a person’s identity, such as biological sex, gender, race, culture, and neurological differences, and identify the legal instruments available to protect these diverse identities. Participants will gain an understanding of the steps involved in effective diversity and inclusion training practices in the workplace, as well as some of the common challenges that are likely to arise and strategies for preparing for them.
Speaker’s Bio:
Kelly Stone, a lawyer from the United States with over twelve years of international law experience, teaches this course. Kelly has a Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Sociology and Philosophy, and she has worked to strengthen the capacity of both public and private bodies to comply with legal obligations. Kelly is well-versed in legal analysis and research, and she has provided technical expertise in developing legal norms and standards, assessing risk management and strategies, and assisting government actors in developing safety and security policies and protocols. Kelly is also a certified facilitator who has trained government officials, non-governmental organizations, and community leaders on a variety of topics such as law, policy, and safety.
