Lee Lunch Bunch Meets
Carolyn Burgess Featheringill
LHS '65
Below is a brief article that you might want to use to give some background to the picture:
Over 30 members of the Fami-Lee gathered for lunch on Thursday, October 24th, a beautiful fall day. Special guests included spouses of some of our members as well as everybody's favorite English teacher Miss Faulkner - - now "Sue" to us since we're "grown."
Regretfully, we missed some of our regulars due to fall trips and recovery from the recent hurricanes.
Sincerest thanks go to Patsy Hughes Oldroyd '65 for making all the arrangements for the gathering as she has since its beginning, Apparently, Patsy's planning has sometimes included assuring restaurants that the stories they've heard about our teen years are greatly exaggerated!
As always, the day began with laughter, handshakes and hugs and ended the same way with promises to "keep in touch." That's just how it is with the Fami-Lee!

More Bus Memories
Andrea Gray Roberson
LHS ‘66
Andrea Gray Roberson, LHS ‘66, "Shirley Jones Moore and I would catch the bus at the corner of Meridian Street and Oakwood almost every summer day and go to Big Spring Park to swim. As anyone that went swimming there knows the water in the pool was the coldest water in the world, but we loved it! After we finished swimming, we would walk up about a million steps (maybe not that many but it felt like it) behind Cotton Row and go to the Krystal and get a hamburger, french fries and a coke. We would walk over to the bus stop on Clinton Street and ride back to Oakwood. I think our whole day cost was about 50 cents. What fun and wonderful summers. We have a bus route in SE Huntsville now and I think I will get on it one day and ride and remember some of my childhood fun."

Most of you remember getting urged to "go to the lobby" and "get yourself a treat" during our early days at the Lyric, Grand, Martin, Tony, and Center theaters, depending upon what the current movie theaters were active. Unlike today when the concessions are usually more expensive than the tickets to get into the movies, we still seemed to have enough money to treat ourselves.
I want you to think back and share your memories of what was your favorite, or most unusual, food or drink you bought at the picture shows back then. I know they strayed away from just candy, popcorn, and drinks, to a few other options. And what about the selection the drive-in theaters had available? And I know some of you worked at the refreshment stands as well. What do you remember most about those parts of your movie experiences?
Next week's edition will be our standart "Veteran's Day" offering. If you have not been recognized in some of our earlier efforts to list our veterans, then please send me an email or use the comments box below to share your thoughts with us.
Last Week's Questions, Answers, And Comments
Johnny Roberts, LHS ‘66, "Regarding your suggestion to share memories of LHS sports teams, my senior year, 65-66, I was the sports editor for our student newspaper, Lee’s Traveller. I remember “covering” the football games and other sports. Back in those days the Birmingham Post Herald/News covered statewide high school sports. When the games were over, I would try to find a pay phone to call in the game results with some commentary about the game. Sometimes the newspaper would give us “reporters” a byline."
Gordon Maynard, LHS ‘64. "My comment is 'I don’t have a comment.'"
