How This Module Contributes to Your Development
Being able to speak well in front of others is an important professional skill. Whether you are giving a presentation, explaining an idea, answering questions, or speaking in a meeting, the way you organize and deliver your message can affect how clearly it is understood and how seriously it is taken.
This module helps you develop the skills needed to "prepare, structure, and deliver effective speeches and presentations". You will work on organizing key points, using clear transitions, supporting your ideas with relevant examples, and adapting your delivery to your audience.
These skills can help you communicate ideas more clearly, hold your audience’s attention, and become more confident and effective when speaking in professional or public settings.
This module introduces the principles and practice of "dynamic public speaking".
It begins with the foundations of rhetoric and the role of speech as a natural form of communication. You will explore how spoken communication differs from written communication and how "voice, delivery, and clarity" affect the way a speech is received.
The module then focuses on building a strong speech, including "identifying and developing key points, organizing ideas, creating a clear structure, and using supporting examples effectively". You will also examine how to make key points memorable through phrasing, coordination, subordination, and careful arrangement.
The later sections address "delivery and audience interaction", including handling questions and answers, finding appropriate supporting material, and performing a key point effectively. You will also work on the main structural elements of a speech: "introductions, transitions, and conclusions".
Throughout the module, practical assignments and speech exercises give you opportunities to apply these techniques and develop a more "clear, structured, engaging, and confident speaking style".
