How This Module Contributes to Company Development
In a multinational workplace, communication problems are not always caused by a lack of language skills. Differences in communication styles, body language, listening habits, levels of directness, and cultural expectations can all affect how people understand one another.
This module helps employees and managers become more aware of these differences and develop better ways of communicating across cultures. This can reduce misunderstandings, improve cooperation, and make it easier to deal with disagreements and conflicts.
For companies, stronger cross-cultural communication can support better working relationships, more effective teamwork, smoother conflict resolution, and a more inclusive workplace.
This module explores the different ways people communicate and how these ways can be influenced by culture.
It begins with non-verbal communication and listening, including active listening and the role of body language, poses, and facial expressions. It then examines how culture can influence communication through concepts such as high- and low-context communication, direct and indirect communication, and formal and informal communication.
The module also introduces cross-cultural awareness and tools such as the Awareness Wheel, Direct-Indirect Feedback Scale, and SPLIT Framework. These are used to help learners examine their own communication and better understand the perspectives of others.
The final part focuses on communication in situations of disagreement and conflict. Learners explore how cultural differences can affect confrontation, negotiation, feedback, trust, and conflict resolution, and develop practical skills for responding to cultural differences more effectively.
