Our goal is to further knowledge about the neurobiological foundations of high-level human brain function. We apply these insights to better understand impaired brain function in clinical neurological populations, develop novel hypothesis-driven approaches to treatment and rehabilitation, and explore how insights from understanding the human brain can support technological innovation across a range of domains including machine vision and robotics. Our work uses state-of-the-art methods including: psychophysics, eye tracking, electrophysiology/event-related potentials (ERPs), computational modeling (e.g., end-to-end deep learning/DNNs), functional brain imaging (e.g., fMRI), brain stimulation (e.g., TMS, tDCS) and neuropsychological single case and clinical group studies of patients with acquired and degenerative cognitive/behavioural impairments. Our research is highly inter-disciplinary involving collaboration with clinical colleagues in neurology, machine vision/AI/engineering researchers and with a range of public and private sector stakeholders. Our work is funded by the ESRC, BBSRC, EPSRC, Wellcome Trust, British Academy and the Royal Society. Follow the links above, or click here, to learn more about our research, and how to get involved.
